Evarance - Rise of the Shadows (Chapter 6)
CHAPTER 6. THE CAMPOUT
Walking under the shadow of darkness, Rachel cried quietly to herself. Why did she have to return to this terrible place? Though she was safe for the moment and the shadow wolves were nowhere in sight, she knew it was only a matter of time before they found her again. After all, this was their territory. What would happen to her when they did find her? Surely Trebax would finish what he started. The fact that she had so narrowly escaped was nothing short of a miracle, one she felt certain must have only enraged him more, if that was even possible.
She wondered what happened to Ember. Did they catch him? Did t

CHAPTER 5. ECHOES OF DREAMS
Evalyn didn’t know about the dreams Rachel or Chris were having, but she also wasn’t immune to them. As she lay her head down on her fluffed-up pillow in her tidy room, she slipped into a peaceful slumber. Soon she was in a field of flowers in the middle of a large valley surrounded by deep-green forests. Bright flashes of light darted across the brilliant blue sky, and a very short distance away, a village of small cottages lay next to a lovely pond dotted with cattails and covered in lily pads.
After making her way through the field to the village, she saw people busily wandering around a m

CHAPTER 4. SHADOWY NIGHTMARE
It had been nearly a week since Rachel started having incredible dreams about another world, a world filled with unusual animals and beautiful forests. She could scarcely concentrate on anything else. The smells of the trees and the flowers, the warmth of the firefox flames against her body—it all created images so vivid and vibrant in her head that she felt like she was truly alive for the first time in her life. Though crazy, the dream world seemed more real to her then the real world.
Rachel could hardly wait for her dreams to begin again that night. As she lay in bed, she looked thoughtfully d

CHAPTER 3. KOBOLD CAPERS
Rachel wasn’t the only one who was having strange dreams. A few days after Rachel’s dreams began, Chris found himself waking up in a dark, cold place shortly after going to bed. The ground was covered in loose dirt, and the walls felt cold, rough, and hard. A faint glow emitted from torches down a long hallway.
After letting his eyes adjust to the low light, Chris could see the rocky ceiling and walls of what looked liked a cave. He walked down the tunnel cautiously and quietly until he noticed a faint hammering sound farther down. He could hear rocks shattering and falling to the ground in piec

CHAPTER 2. DREAM CHASING
Rachel opened her eyes feeling dazed and confused. She was once again in her room sprawled out across her bed. Had that all just been a dream? It didn’t feel like a dream. In fact, she could still feel the lingering warmth of the firefox flame on her skin. Or was that just her blanket playing tricks on her?
Even if it was just a dream, Rachel still couldn’t believe how vivid, how real the whole incident had seemed. She couldn’t be sure exactly what was going on, but she did sense she was becoming part of something very special, even if she couldn’t quite put those feelings into words

CHAPTER 1. PATH OF ASH
The air in the forest was crisp and clean with delicate scents of bark and foliage wafting about. The surrounding trees were painted in brilliant autumn hues of yellow, red, and orange, their branches dancing gently in a passing breeze, releasing several dead or dying leaves to float and twist in elegant downward spirals toward the forest floor. The ground now had a thin covering of such leaves, many which were still too fresh to have become brown and crackly with dehydration.
Moving forward around trees and shrubs, it was hard not to notice the eerie quiet aside from the slight rustle of leaves and branches
